RESIDENTIAL

Project Name: Private Residence

Location: Orchard Lake, MI

Project Type: Residence

The design intent for this 15,500 square foot residential project is to create a dramatic atmosphere for artwork, supply soft lighting in areas such as the dining room and highlight the dramatic architecture found throughout the home, particularly in the high ceiling "great room".

Lighting emphasizes each of the different spaces in a unique way. Quality interiors demand great lighting, and to meet that challenge, layers of light are used to create a vibrant and engaging space. Cove lighting is used to highlight architectural ceiling details. MR-16 lamps provide accent and artwork lighting. Energy efficient fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent downlights provide an environmentally and economic sensible source of general illumination.

Lighting is also used as an integral decorative element. Neon is used for a playful splash of color in the home theater, while a playful array of diffuse glass downlights creates 'art' in a hallway ceiling. The dining room is enhanced with decorative luminaires, and a luminous stained glass ceiling.

Lights throughout the home are controlled on a master dimming system. This design uses only a few different types of lamps, which makes maintenance simple. Additionally, the owners were left with a complete inventory of lamps and each fixture is labeled with lamp ordering code numbers to simplify future maintenance.
